New Kezar Falls facility increases supply, reliability for Maine Water customers
SACO, Maine, Jan. 16, 2025 — A $3.6 million investment in drinking water infrastructure will ensure an adequate supply of high-quality drinking water for customers in our Kezar Falls water system well into the future.
Maine Water continually monitors its water systems to make proactive, real-time decisions about infrastructure to ensure customers receive high-quality and long-term reliable water service. Noticing a reduction in the quantity of water coming from existing wells in Kezar Falls, which are located adjacent to the Ossipee River, Maine Water began developing a project for new wells and a modern treatment facility to better serve customers in Parsonsfield, Porter and Hiram, now and into the future.
Breaking ground in construction in 2024, the phase one of the project includes hydrogeologic investigation to develop two new wells to replace the existing wells. Phase two includes construction of the new treatment building, which will be connected to the 9.5 miles of main in the Kezar Falls distribution system.
When completed, the new facility and wells will meet the long-term, peak-demand needs of the 900 customers served by the water system, providing reliable, high-quality water with energy efficient equipment and a standby generator, as well as a separated chemical, electrical and treatment space. Project completion is targeted for the summer of 2025.
Funding for the project comes from the Maine Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
